Medical and Healthcare Professionals

One of the founding objectives of FOC is to assist in the advancement of health and medical services in China. Several of the development projects mentioned above involve public health and training for medical professionals. These programs have only been possible because of the excellent cooperation that has been established with local government health officials and provincial bureaus. FOC is grateful for this productive cooperation and continues to make plans for future academic exchange programs and development programs for hospitals and clinics.

During 2007, we continued to support a foreign healthcare professional at the Hanzhong Welfare Center in Shaanxi Province. This experienced worker supervises all staff at the Welfare Center.

We provided 69 days’ worth of basic health classes in schools in poor parts of Qinghai, reaching 4841 children. 136 teachers were trained in the delivery of health education. Furthermore, twelve different villages in Qinghai benefitted from one-day village health training (see the section Development Work and Training).

During 2007 at the Firm Foundations Center in Nanchong, Sichuan, we provided training in occupational therapy and training related to Hepatitis B. We supported two free clinics in poor parts of Sichuan, by sending an experienced medic to work on a clinic in Ganzi prefecture and by providing Y5000 of free medicine to a voluntary clinic in Panzhihua (see section on Development work and Training, above).
